SACRAMENTO KINGS 2002建隊於第0季，是自PPM籃球開放時即成立的創始隊伍之一。這個隊名就是要紀念西元2002年(NBA01-02賽季)那隻拿下西區第一，擁有國王五虎，眼看就要問鼎總冠軍，卻在西區冠軍賽3:1領先下被聯盟黑哨做掉的那隻國王隊。(史騰欠我王一座總冠軍!!) 建隊時本想利用聯盟草創之初上下級聯盟實力較相近的情況，由低級聯盟連續升級至頂級聯盟，以賺取晉級獎金及球隊綜合評分的優勢，故選擇由3級聯盟出發。 (但事後發展證明應該一開始就選擇高級聯盟，利用高級聯盟故有贊助商優勢站穩腳步，才能發展的更順利，不過這都已經是無法改變也不可能再重來的過去了。) 第1季雖然例行賽僅以分區第4吊車尾晉級，卻在季後賽第1輪神奇的連三場以贏1-2分的方式逆轉淘汰分區冠軍，並一路殺進決賽才惜敗拿到亞軍，並於附加賽中順利取勝升級II.3。但接下來在II.3的發展並不順利，...
