Tactics

To achieve good results you cannot underestimate the tactical preparation of the team. On the Tactics page you can find a number of tactical options that you can use to have a direct influence on the outcome of the game.

Game importance
The importance of the game is a critical tactical option. You have to use it with care, because even though high importance makes your players play with the maximum intensity, it causes their seasonal energy to drop faster. Low importance is not that costly on the energy, but the players do not play with a high intensity. Game importance also influences chemistry and experience gains of players. The higher the importance, the faster the players gain chemistry and experience.

Tempo
With the run and gun style, your players attempt fast breaks more often after the opponent's turnovers and they always try to finish their attacks quickly with a shot. This option is best suited for teams who have fast players. If you select slow attacks, the players will try to only take high percentage shots. These tactics are suited for players with a good technique. You can also use it if you need to defend a lead and run down the clock. When you use slow attacks, there is a bigger chance that your team will run out of time limit for a shot.

Offensive alignment
The first number in the offensive alignment is the number of players operating outside the two-point area and the second number is the number of players operating inside this area. The more players you have on the inside, the greater your chance of an offensive rebound after a missed shot, especially when your players have a height advantage over the opponent. On the other hand, it increases the chances of a turnover because players inside the two-point area are marked more closely.

Offensive tactics
Continuity offense is best suited for players with good technique and passing abilities. Motion offense is based on constant movement of players and therefore it is important to have fast players if you want to play this way. Zone offense is an effective weapon against zone defense of the opponent. If you use set plays, you can select one or two players who will be the main shooters in your lineup and their teammates will try to pass the ball to them to set them up for a scoring chance. This option is good when you have one or two excellent shooters. The correct execution of these offensive tactics depends on how much the players have played them. The more they play any of these tactics, the better they will be at it. The information about the current state of chemistry of your team in these tactics can be found as the number in brackets on the Tactics page.

Shooting preference
Set this option to suit the strengths of your players. Shooting is the most important attribute for 3 point shots. For medium range shots jumping and height of the shooter compared to the player who marks him are also taken into account in addition to shooting. For close range shots the decisive attributes are technique and jumping as well as shooter's height versus defender's height.

Defense
When playing man to man defense, every player marks one opposing player. Usually the one who plays on the same position as the defending player. In zone defense the players mark their own zone. With this type of defense there is a higher risk of mismatches when a short player has to defend a much taller one. You can also play a combination of zone and man to man defense. When using this option, you can select one or two players you want to mark man to man in order to eliminate the biggest weapons of the opponent. The other players will mark their zones. The correct execution of these defensive tactics depends on how much the players have played them. The more they play any of these tactics, the better they will be at it. The information about the current state of chemistry of your team in these tactics can be found as the number in brackets on the Tactics page.

Aggressiveness
Aggressive play increases the efficiency of your players in defense. However, it also increases the chances of your players committing fouls. That can lead to free throws for the opponent and exclusions of your players. Aggressive play is a good tactic especially when you are trying to come back from a deficit.

Time-out
If your opponent gains momentum and scores several unanswered goals, you can change this trend by taking a time-out. Your players will calm down and the momentum gained by your opponent will be gone. The half-time break has the same effect as a time-out. If you set a time-out to be called when you trail by a certain number of points, the score since the last time-out or the half-time break is taken into account and not the total game score. The series of conceded points resets at half-time break and after every time-out. Each team can take 2 time-outs in the first half, 3 in the second half and 1 in each overtime period.
